 | "From a onetime find in Peru in the early 90s, this specimen is from the Peruvian sub-collection of Cal and Kerith Graeber, which consisted of only four flats of specimens. This is the second helvite from their collection. The first specimen sold for $1500. This is an attractive miniature overall and features one SHARP, CANARY-YELLOW crystal to 2.0 mm on edge. The helvite is sharply tetrahedral in form, and is so sharp and colorful it looks fake. The pink Rhodonite crystals really accent this fine piece. It is a supremely good rarity, and a classic form Peru that is almost unobtainable. Only a small handful were found, and tha twas in the mid-80s.
Named in 1817 from the Greek helios, sun, alluding
to its yellow color. Helvite, a member of the danalite-helvite-genthelvite series, is far less abundant than genthelvite at MSH. Helvite fluoresces intense deep red under LW and SW.
