"Amethyst flowers are very rare and magical indeed. We are told they grow in Basalt and that it takes a full day to gently pick away the matrix off of the flower with a nail. To find ones that are perfect is a very rare occurrence because of the difficulty in removing them. The name means "not drunken", as amethyst was worn as an amulet against drunkenness.
